Bio Safety Information
In the event of a biological material or RDNA spill follow the
Biological Spill Response guidelines provided by the Biosafety Program.
and call University of South Florida Biosafety Officer 974-0954. Make sure
you know the proper clean up procedures before using biological materials.
Biological waste must be disposed of in the red biological waste bins, not in regular
trash. Also syringes and pasteur pipettes must be disposed of in sharps containers,
and then thrown out in the red biological waste bins.
Infectious Agents, Biological Toxins, Select Agents, and RDNA safety at the University
of South Florida are governed by the
Biosafety Program coordinated by
Farah Moulvi within the Division
of Research Integrity & Compliance.
The Biosafety Program
web site provides electronic forms that must be filed with and approved by the Institutional Biosafety
Committee. In order to use some biological materials including recombinant
DNA at the University of South Florida, researchers must also complete a
BioSafety Education Program.
In addition to BioSafety electronic forms and education information, the
Biosafety Program website contains a number of links to government and educational
information dealing with BioSafety.
