Teaching Lab Safety

This page will provide information to laboratory instructors and teaching assistants to facilitate safe laboratory procedures. In the event that an emergency does occur in the lab, consult the web site section In Case of an Emergency.

The University recommends that the following Teaching Laboratory Safety Guidelines (PDF) be used to ensure the safety of students enrolled in laboratory classes. These guidelines are contained in the University's Chemical Hygiene Plan.

For teaching and training lab classes that use Infectious Agents, Biological Toxins, and/or rDNA, the class must be approved by the Division of Research Integrity and Compliance prior to the beginning of the semester. Submit the request using the DRI&C teaching lab registration form. Also, the Instructor/TA must complete Biosafety Training prior to the start of the class.
